HTC starts rolling out Oreo to the U11 in Taiwan

Oreo's era is in full swing and the next device to get the chocolate and cream treat is HTC's U11. Back in August, when Oreo officially launched, HTC said it would be bringing the new software version to the U11, U Ultra, and HTC 10, and the first one appears to have won the race.

HTC unveils VIVE Focus VR headset for China alongside new dev platform, cancels Daydream plans

Google tried to create some buzz for its Daydream VR platform at its I/O developer conference back in May, even though public appetite for the tech seems to be waning. Standalone headsets were announced as the next evolution of the Daydream experience, but since then it's all gone rather quiet. We now know that HTC has canceled its plans to release a standalone Daydream headset, and is instead concentrating its efforts on China with a different standalone headset and development platform.

Check out these leaked wallpapers from the upcoming HTC U11+

With every new phone launch, the manufacturer is expected to include a number of stock wallpapers for users to choose from. They're another way of differentiating from other OEMs and adding some extra branding flair to a device. The latest flagship phone to be announced by HTC is the U11+, which we've heard was once intended to be the canceled Google Pixel 2 XL (codenamed 'Muskie'). If it had been a Pixel, it would have had Google's Wallpaper app by default, but since it's not, HTC has come up with some wallpapers of its own.

HTC U11+ is based on 'Muskie,' the cancelled HTC Pixel 2 XL

Earlier this year, a device called 'Muskie' appeared in AOSP (alongside 'Walleye'), which was believed to be the larger 2017 Pixel device. Then the phone was seemingly cancelled, with the LG-made 'Taimen' taking its place. Taimen turned out to be the actual Pixel 2 XL, and Walleye became the HTC-made Pixel 2. Recently, more evidence was discovered that Muskie was being made by HTC, and it would have had a massive 3,830mAh battery.

HTC announces upgraded U11+ flagship alongside Android One-toting U11 Life

HTC's U11 gained two siblings today, and neither of them has been a particularly well-kept secret. They're certainly not identical twins, either. The aptly named HTC U11+ is a substantially updated, upsized version of the headline U11 from earlier in the year, with an 18:9, 6-inch display, a huge battery, and the most modern design ever seen on an HTC phone. The U11 Life is a mid-ranger that will launch with Android One outside the US.

HTC U11+ hands-on: HTC steps into the modern smartphone era

Six months have passed since HTC launched its 2017 flagship, the U11, and although that phone was a significant improvement over the Taiwanese company's recent high-end efforts, some may not have thought it captured the imagination when compared to competing devices from rivals like Samsung and LG. There's plenty of work to be done if HTC wants to get anywhere near back to the lofty position it once held in the Android smartphone landscape, and an upgrade to the U11 six months later is probably not the worst place to start.

HTC U11 Life review: A "value" U11 that isn't much of a value at all

The HTC U11 Life is one of two new smartphones announced by HTC today. I've been using it for over a week already, though, getting to know HTC's latest attempt to penetrate the ever-elusive premium midrange segment. At $349, the Life is positioned to do battle against the likes of the Moto X4 and, I guess, the 64GB Moto G5S Plus. That's really kind of it.

You see, here in America there are very few premium midrange phones on the market because, quite frankly, they don't sell. The reason they don't sell is simple: monthly installment plans make more expensive, better smartphones affordable for most people.

T-Mobile leaks everything about the upcoming HTC U11 Life

HTC is getting ready to release two phones in the near future. The first is the HTC U11 Plus, which is expected to have an 18:9 display with minimal bezels. The second is the U11 Life, a mid-range device originally expected to ship with Android One. HTC has an event scheduled for November 2 where the U11 Life is expected to be revealed, but T-Mobile may have just spoiled every detail possible.

HTC now offers financing on purchases from its online store (again)

Fresh off the acquisition of its Pixel team by Google, HTC has announced interest-free financing on purchases from HTC.com. That means you can grab HTC's latest devices and pay nothing up front. Instead, you pay a little bit every month until the device is zeroed out. There are a few caveats, but this'll make HTC's phones much easier to buy.

HTC U11 Plus leaked, along with more U11 Life details

The HTC U11 was the company's second flagship of the year, and by most accounts, a pretty great phone. We've already heard rumors of an upcoming budget phone with Android One, the U11 Life, but now details about a U11 Plus have also leaked.
